Imagine a great job with great pay. I was a senior litigator with the United States Department of Justice. It was a great job with great pay. I worked very hard for years and years to get to that position and salary.
Then my wife died of cancer, leaving me with three young sons. Before she died, we gathered in her hospital room for one last time as a family. We prayed together, and my wife's last words to us were "Till we meet again".
I now had a focus and priority for my life. Being very hard-headed, I tried to continue with my dream job, to continue flying with the Air Force Reserve, and to raise my kids. I wasn't doing any of them very well. So I quit my dream job. I took a second part-time job with the Air Force Reserve to help pay the bills, but I was able to spend much more time with my sons. Ten years later, I had not financially recovered. Worth it? Absolutely.
