I hear time and time again from the media that the government is doing this or doing that to help the economy get going again. It seems to me that we have learned nothing from decades past of what America is about. It is about small groups of people banding together to support each other. Small town America has always pitched in when their community needed it. There is never a shortage of people willing to roll up their sleeves and get things done. As our cities have gotten larger there is a shortage of a different kind, COMMUNITY. I see it daily as people just focus on themselves and depend on others (government) to help those in need. This lack of involvement is the biggest contributing factor in where our country is headed. Had more people taken an interest in their local community, local government, and their neighbors, we wouldn't be looking at the government saying, 'just give me more of your money and we will take care of everything for you'. Have we gotten that lazy that television is more important than real life? When more people can name the last American Idol winner than their congressman, we have a problem. It is time to say stop. No more. Give me what I have earned and let me decide who I want to help in my local community. Stop growing a broken federal government handout system and let those of us willing to fix our communities and states lead the way. Want to fix healthcare? Fix immigration so there are less free rides we have to pay for. Implement tort reform so that doctors can practice medicine without exorbitant insurance costs. Fix the fraud in Medicaid. Allow people to form non-work based groups to purchase insurance more easily. Don't let the government take control of more of our daily lives. When they can't be trusted to spend OUR money wisely without waste and fraud, why give them more? Let them stick to what the government is suppose to do for the people: protect us against enemies both foreign and domestic.
